Water bombersThe government of Manitoba has recently upgraded its fleet of water bombers for fighting forest fires. This image shows a Canadian-made Bombardier 415 aircraft, which is one of the new planes that is custom built for scooping up water from a lake and then releasing the water over a forest fire. How does the pilot know when to release the water to hit the targeted fire? We will study the underlying physics in chapter 3.
